Equilibrium began selling brewing at its headquarters at 22 Henry Street and is run by Ricardo Petroni and his partner Peter Oates, who are both environmental engineers. Petroni has a Master's degree from MIT.

Petroni has been brewing his own beer for more than 20 years and decided to turn it into business.

"I wanted to do this for a living," Petroni said. "We wanted to make something we wanted to drink."

Equlibrium's beer includes sour IPAs and stouts.

"The flavor and the texture are really nice," Petroni said.

Customers seem to agree. When a new beer is released, customers can expect to wait in long lines and the beer quickly sells out.

"It ends up taking care of our whole stash," Petroni said.  "We're not making enough beer to meet the demand."

Equilibrium, which is unaffiliated with the same named restaurant next door, is buying more supplies to keep up with customer demand.

"People really like the quality of the beer," Petroni said. "We take a lot of pride in what we put out. We don't want to put out something subpar."

The City of Middletown has welcomed Equilibrium with open arms.

"We've been working together a lot," Petroni said. "We're doing our part to put Middletown on the map. A lot of people are coming to visit. We feel very welcome."

Petroni said they often get visitors from throughout the area, including people who love to tour breweries. He said he enjoys getting to run his brewery.

"We have a good time here," Petroni said. "We love getting to interact with our customers and have them try our beer."
