The project will save taxpayers approximately $1,000,000 per year in annual energy costs and reduce Clarkstown's carbon footprint by 979 tons annually.

In addition, by upgrading to LED fixtures, Clarkstown will achieve better quality or "cleaner" light that will increase vehicular and pedestrian safety.

"Once again, Clarkstown is leading the way in Rockland County by being the first Town in the County to convert our streetlights to energy efficient LED's," said Supervisor George Hoehmann. "This project not only keeps our commitment to preserve our community's environment for future generations but brings much-needed relief to our overburdened taxpayers as we save nearly $1 million in energy costs per year."

The LED streetlight conversion is being financed by the New York State Power Authority (NYPA) and will be paid back by the town through the energy savings in a little over two years.

The project should be completed by October.
