Orange County has announced that its first medical marijuana dispensary has opened in Newburgh, serving about 45,000 patients, according to multiple reports.
Curaleaf New York announced the opening of its new medical marijuana, which is the first to open following the New York State Department of Health’s expansion of its medical marijuana program.
The dispensary is located at 8 North Plank Road, which is a five-minute drive from the intersection of I-87 and I-84.
Etain Health operates a medical marijuana dispensary in Kingston (Ulster County). Etain also has a dispensary in Yonkers.
Curaleaf’s dispensary is the only site in Orange County for medical-grade cannabis, and it will serve patients in Dutchess, Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.
“When we made the decision to support having this industry in New York we did so because we wanted to help those individuals who were suffering, especially our children and veterans, that were not benefitting from other treatments,” said state Sen. Bill Larkin. “As the first medical marijuana dispensary in Orange County opens right here in Newburgh, I will be proud to know that those in our own community that we sought to help will be getting the treatment they need to improve their quality of life and that of their families.”
State law does not allow medical cannabis to be smoked, so Curaleaf offers vapors, pills, and tinctures to its patients.
Curaleaf also plans new dispensaries in Plattsburgh, Carle Place on Long Island, and in Queens by this summer.
