A routine traffic stop early Sunday morning on Interstate 87 near the Orange County border turned into a substantial drug bust when nearly three pounds of cocaine were found in the car, according to New York State Police.
Troopers pulled the vehicle driven by Ricardo E. Almenteros, 19 of Rochester, over for an equipment violation in the Town of Plattekill, state police said.
A probable cause search of the vehicle and two other passengers, Ricardo Almenteros, 52, and Edward A. Pearce, 24, both of Rochester, turned up nearly 2.8 pounds of cocaine, troopers said.
All three were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. 52-year-old Ricardo Almenteros was also charged with violation of probation or parole.
