ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. — A 27-year-old from Walden who is running for Congress is facing charges in two separate cases: a shoplifting attempt of nearly $1,500 worth of items from Kohl's in Newburgh and trespassing by living in someone's empty house, according to the RecordOnline.
After Kohl's employees stopped Steven Brisee with the items at 3 p.m. Sept. 11, he was arrested, charged with felony grand larceny and held on $500 bond, the RecordOnline said.
Brisee was also charged with trespassing by state troopers with breaking into and living in a home in Kerhonksen, while the owner wasn’t there, the RecordOnline said.
The owner called police Sept. 9 after finding a stranger’s clothes and a wallet containing Brisee’s campaign cards, the RecordOnline said.
On his Facebook page, Brisee posted a comment Thursday saying, "This morning my lawyer called me an idiot for talking about my case with a reporter... and for repeatedly using the phrase 'I done my nickel.'"
Brisee is a Democrat looking to challenge Rep. John Faso in New York’s 19th Congressional District next year.
