NEWBURGH, N.Y. – A Peekskill market owner tried to burn down his store on Friday, authorities said.

Jesus Cruz, 43, was charged with arson in Friday's fire at the Ahorra Ahora Marketplace on Broadway, police said.

A judge ordered him held without bail in the Orange County Jail, where he remained Wednesday.

Cruz was arrested following an investigation by the Newburgh Fire Department and a Westchester County Police K-9 unit.

Authorities asked that anyone who might have seen something or has information that might help the investigation contact Newburgh police: 845-561-3131.
