NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Newburgh Police charged a man who is a fugitive from justice in Illinois with murder on Sunday, authorities said.
Kevin Cook, 59, was arrested after Newburgh authorities found Tanya Smith, 47, dead in a second-floor bedroom on Carson street just before 3 p.m., police said.
Cook, who told authorities he was staying with a relative in Newburgh, has an open warrant from the state of Illinois dating back to August of this year, officials said.
Cook was held pending his Monday arraignment on second-degree murder.
