Monroe police received the alarm call around 3:54 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, and arrived within minutes at the location on Lake Street to find the door smashed, as well as several jewelry cases, said Det. Luke Fremgen.

The man, who was caught on video surveillance cameras, but couldn't' be identified, was in and out of the store within one minute with $68,377 worth of jewels before fleeing in a four-door white sedan, said Fremgen.

Because the man could not be identified on camera, police have been searching local pawn shops, and are asking for the public for help in catching the bandit.

The crime does not seem connected to any similar burglaries in the area, he added.

Anyone with information should contact the Monroe Police Department at 845-782-8644. All calls can remain anonymous.
