The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 46-year-old Sherrod Jackson, who has moved to a residence on Johnston Street in Newburgh.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Jackson as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, in June 2002, Jackson had sexual intercourse and choked a 32-year-old woman and then a second woman whose age was not released. He was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse and third-degree sodomy in April 2004 and sentenced to a term of between 18 months and three years in prison. He remains under the jurisdiction of the Newburgh City Police Department.
