The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 56-year-old George Herring, who has moved from a South Street residence to an apartment on Route 9W in Newburgh.

The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Herring as a level two threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Herring had sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl and a second girl under the age of 17 in February 1994. Herring was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse in January the following year and sentenced to a term of between 18 months and 54 months in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
