A man who barricaded himself inside a home in Lake Carmel was taken into custody late Friday night.

The incident began Friday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. in the Vernon Drive area when a family member called police reporting the situation.

The Putnam Sheriff's Department and Kent Police responded with assistance from Westchester County Police.

There had been reports the man had a gun and that a loud bang was heard at one point, but no weapon was immediately recovered.

The Sheriff's Office alerted residents in the Vernon Drive area to stay inside during the first hours of the standoff and school buses were rerouted.
