A registered sex offender convicted of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl has reported a move into Orange County.
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Orange County residents regarding the residency of 66-year-old Herman Johnson, who moved from Long Island to a residence on Dean Hill in New Windsor.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Johnson as a level two threat, which means he is at "moderate risk of a repeat offense."
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Johnson had sexual contact with his 13-year-old victim on Long Island in May 1997. He was convicted of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 14 in February the following year and sentenced to three years probation. Johnson is now under the jurisdiction of the New Windsor Town Police Department.
