ORANGE COUNTY, N.Y. – A new member of the Orange County Sheriff's Office was welcomed to the force and will be helping to keep streets safer.
Skip is a 15-month-old Malinois/Shepherd mix who was born in Hungary. The Sheriff's Office purchased him with funds from a grant via the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, officials said.
He got the name in memory of former Deputy Sheriff Robert "Skip" Dooley, a former K-9 handler with the sheriff's office.
Skip and Sergeant Dustin Palen will attend Explosive Detection training this fall and patrol training in the spring of 2018.
