Morris County musician Matthew Brian Fordney of Lake Hopatcong died Sunday, Nov. 19, aged 39. Born in York, Pennsylvania, Matthew went to Jefferson Township High School before graduating from the County College of Morris with a music degree, his obituary says. He is remembered for his incredible skill and spirit as a musician. He spent much of his time in high school in marching band and various singing groups and participated in the New Jersey All State Choir. Maryland State Police Helicopter Unit Rescues Boater Stranded On Marshy Island After Midnight
A Maryland State Police helicopter was required to save a boater who found himself in a precarious position after getting stranded when his boat ran aground. At around 12:40 a.m. on Thursday morning, state police received a call about a 22-year-old boater who got stranded in a marshy section of Taylor's Island in Dorchester. The initial call came from the Dorchester County Fire and EMS Department after they were unable to get to the island by boat or by foot, leaving them in need of an aerial rescue. One boater remained missing and two others were rescued after a boat capsized in the rough waters of Manasquan Inlet, authorities said. The U.S. Coast Guard was using a helicopter out of Atlantic City and a C-130 cargo plane out of North Carolina to assist in the search off of Point Pleasant, the Coast Guard said on Friday, Sept. 15. A 47-foot motor lifeboat from Manasquan Inlet also was searching the waters. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people and a dog from a boat taking on water Sunday, Aug. 27 near the Forked River in Barnegat Bay, authorities said. Man Drowns After Having Medical Emergency At Eastern Mass Marina: Police
A man drowned in Essex County Sunday morning, Aug. 13, at a marina in Haverhille after he fell from a boat, authorities said. Police received a 911 call just after 11:45 a.m. to Marianna’s Marina at 72 Coffin Avenue. The caller said a man suffered a medical emergency before he collapsed and fell off of a boat and into the water, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said. The U.S. Coast Guard rescued four people after their 12-foot vessel became disabled in the Delaware River near Chester Island, Gloucester County, authorities said. ID Released For Boater Who Went Missing Near Smith Point Beach
Police have released the identity of a man whose 25-foot boat washed ashore will all the electronics working, but the owner missing. Todd Mauro, age 52, of Ronkonkoma, was last seen around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 as he left from the South Shore Boat Yard in Patchogue, said the Suffolk County Police.
