Connecticut Bicyclist Killed In Route 6 Crash In Putnam County
A bicyclist from Connecticut was killed Friday on Route 6 in Southeast, N.Y., when he turned in front of a car, according to Putnam County Sheriff Don Smith.
The crash occurred at about 9:05 a.m. in the two westbound lanes of the highway, just east of Starr Ridge Road, according to preliminary reports from the scene, said Capt. William McNamara.
The car and bicycle were both headed west, with the bicycle traveling along the right shoulder as the car was approaching and overtaking it from behind.

Molinaro Signs Measure To Cut Solar Energy Tax
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dutchess County residents who use solar energy will save money under a new a resolution signed into law Thursday by Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro.
Passed by the Legislature on Monday, Aug. 14., the resolution makes residential solar energy exempt from county sales taxes.
The plan, which goes into effect March 1, 2018, is estimated to save taxpayers more than $175,000 in 2018.
Legislator John Forman, the main sponsor of the resolution, said the legislation was a major step toward incentivizing renewable energy.

Public Hearings On Countywide Shared Services Plan Scheduled
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Residents are invited to attend two public hearings scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30 and Thursday, Aug. 31 to discuss the Countywide Shared Services Tax Savings Plan.
The plan is the result of multiple meetings of local city, town and village officials, along with representatives from school districts, BOCES, and special improvement districts, to develop projects and services that can be shared as mandated by the 2017-18 state budget.
The meetings will be held:
Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. at the Wappinger Town Hall, 20 Middlebush Road, Wappingers Falls.
