CPR Training Will Be Held In Putnam
PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services will offer a CPR/AED training course for the public on Wednesday, July 26, in Patterson.The training course, which is open to all, will provide training in both adult and pediatric CPR, choking management and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
The course, which is geared toward non-medical professionals, cost $50, covers the cost of materials.
The class will run from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Patterson Fire Department, No. 1, 13 Burdick Road, Patterson. To register or for more information, 845-808-4000.
Hopewell Junction's William Byrnes, Ex-Verplanck Fire Department Chief, 74
William F. "Billy" Byrnes, of Hopewell Junction, an ex-chief of the Verplanck Fire Department and a life member of the Verplanck Fire Protection Association, died Thursday, July 6. He was 74.
Byrnes was born to James and Olive Byrnes on May 5, 1943, in Yonkers. He married his wife Roberta (Brown) Byrnes on Oct. 25, 1967, and was employed by Con Edison for 35 years.
Known by all as "Billy," he was a member of the Verplanck Fire Department for more than 50 years serving as chief three times.

Peekskill Volunteer Ambulance Corps Loses Two Of Its Own Within One Week
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- It's been a sad time over the past week for the Peekskill Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps (PVAC) who lost two of its members within a week of each other.
Deputy Chief Mitch Williams, 49, died on June 28, and Evan Fytros, 40, died on July 5, both men are PVAC life members.
Fytros, 40, lost his battle with cancer at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. Born on Nov. 8, 1976, at Phelps Hospital, he was a 1994 graduate of Peekskill High School and received an associates degree from Westchester Community College.

Spring Valley Man Charged With Assault, Resisting Arrest
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man who refused to obey police orders after attacking another man in Spring Valley was charged with assault, according to the Spring Valley Police.
Officers were dispatched to 99 South Central Ave., on Sunday, July 2, for an unknown problem. When they arrived they found a man bleeding severely from his face, said Officer Matthew Galli.
The victim was able to give a good description of his attacker and officers stopped a male identified as Francisco Augustin, 32, of Spring Valley, who denied being involved in the assault, Galli said.

Woman Injured In Fall Off Back Of Motorcycle In Dutchess
DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A woman was injured when she fell off the back of a motorcycle on Sunday when the driver accelerated unexpectedly, according to the New York State Police.
Troopers from the Dover barracks responded to the crash around 5 p.m. on Route 55, said Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.

Man Charged With Vehicular Assault After Head-On Rockland Crash Injures 5
ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Five people were injured during a vehicle crash on Sunday when a man driving drunk crossed over a yellow line and slammed head-on into another car in Pearl River, said the Orangetown Police.
Kevin Thompson, 27, of Hillsdale, N.J., who is hospitalized with serious injuries, was charged with felony vehicular assault, felony driving without a license, and DWI, following the crash which occurred around 5;45 p.m. on West Washington Ave., said Capt. Don Butterworth.
