20 Passengers Safely Evacuated From Smoking Bus In Nanuet

A reported TOR bus fire in Nanuet around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday turned out to be smoke coming from the engine compartment of the vehicle, according to Rockland County Executive Ed Day. The incident, which took place on Smith Street, caused all 20 passengers to get off the bus while the Nanuet Fire Department and the Rockland County Sheriff's Office responded, Day added. POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Poughkeepsie Police are warning residents of an increasing number of vehicle break-ins in the south side areas of the city. Police said they have received reports in the residential areas south of Hooker Avenue, as well as the area around Georgetown Square. The thief, or thieves, are going through unlocked cars and stealing property and valuables left inside. Police warn residents to lock all the doors of their vehicles and to remove all valuables inside. Most of the thefts are taking place in vehicles that have been left unlocked. DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 38-year-old Union Vale man killed while cutting down trees on Mallory Road Tuesday has been identified, according to the New York State Police. Zane A. Grey was felling trees with a chainsaw, clearing a vacant parcel of land located on Mallory Road when he was struck and became pinned underneath a large tree, said Trooper Melissa McMorris. First-responders arrived on scene and immediately attempted to remove the victim from underneath the tree. A Westchester man was killed in a crash on Central Avenue in Yonkers, according to the Yonkers Police. Joseph Fragano, 46, of White Plains was killed around 8:33 p.m. Tuesday after crashing his Buick sedan into a utility pole, bringing down the pole's transformer and wires, according to Sgt. Dean Politopoulos. Fragano was traveling northbound in the vicinity of 800 Central Park Ave., when he sideswiped another vehicle and crashed into the pole, according to police. 78.5-Acre Sheep Farm Preserved In North East
Caora Farm in North East has been preserved for the future thanks to help from Dutchess County and a partnership with several local and state agencies, according to Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro. The county contributed $69,300 for the purchase of an agricultural conservation easement on the 78.5-acre farm in perpetuity. ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A 24-year-old Suffern man was charged with DWI Sunday after police found him passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle, according to the Suffern police.
