Cause Determined For Fire That Destroys Poughkeepsie Home DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - An unattended cigar burning near a bed ignited a mattress on Wednesday, causing a fire that spread throughout a Fitchett Street home, leaving a family homeless.  City of Poughkeepsie Fire Chief Mark Johnson said firefighters received numerous 911 calls for the fire at 45 Fitchett St., around 7:19 p.m. By the time firefighters arrived the second floor of the two-story home was engulfed in flames, Johnson said. 23 Charged In $220K Orange, Dutchess Fraud Scheme Nearly two dozen Orange and Dutchess County residents were charged Wednesday in a welfare fraud sweep by the Orange County District Attorney's Office. SUV Goes Off Road, Into Pond Near Ward Pound Ridge Reservation This story has been updated. Police and fire rescue responded to the scene of an SUV crash Thursday in which the driver lost control and drove into a pond on a street near the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and borders of Pound Ridge, Lewisboro and Bedford. The car plunged into the water at 141 Black Brook Road off Route 121. Bedford Police said that all of the vehicle's occupants were able to get out of the car without incident. No one was injured.
